Job summary

Behavioral Health Network, Inc. seeks a Family Partner to join the Mobile Crisis Intervention team in Western Massachusetts, helping families navigate crises with lived caregiver experience.

This role focuses on peer support for parents and caregivers, building trust and engagement during crisis response. You'll collaborate with MCI clinicians to explain processes, support stabilization planning, and connect families to community resources while maintaining confidentiality and professional

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a human-services field and at least one year of experience or equivalent.
• Experience navigating child- and family-serving systems and providing non-clinical support.
• Ability to use lived experience to empower families without delivering clinical treatment.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Provide peer support to parents and caregivers during behavioral health crises.

• Identify strengths and practical steps to increase safety and stabilization in the least restrictive setting.

What You Will Do:

• Provide peer support to parents and caregivers whose children or youth are experiencing a behavioral health crisis, drawing appropriately on lived caregiver experience to build trust, hope, and engagement.
• Partner with Mobile Crisis Intervention clinicians and counselors during crisis response, helping families understand the process, communicate their needs, and participate meaningfully in assessment and stabilization planning.
• Offer calm, compassionate, culturally responsive support to parents and caregivers during highly stressful situations while maintaining clear professional and peer-role boundaries.
• Help families identify strengths, natural supports, coping strategies, and practical steps that can increase safety and support stabilization in the least restrictive setting.
• Teach and support parents and caregivers in navigating behavioral health, medical, educational, child-serving, and community systems following a crisis.
• Connect families with peer support, self-help groups, community-based resources, outpatient care, and other recommended services through effective referrals and warm handoffs.
• Support follow-up outreach after crisis encounters, reinforce safety and stabilization plans, and communicate emerging needs or concerns to the MCI clinical team.
• Advocate for the family's voice and perspective in collaboration with providers, schools, state agencies, emergency partners, and other members of the child's support network.
• Complete clear, accurate, and timely service documentation and maintain confidentiality in accordance with program, payer, and agency requirements.
• Participate in supervision, training, case consultation, team communication, and other responsibilities assigned by MCI leadership.

Who You Are:

• Personal experience as a parent or primary caregiver of a child or youth with significant social, emotional, behavioral, or mental health needs required.
• Bachelor's degree in a human-services field and at least one year of experience working with the target population; or an associate degree in a human-services field and at least one year of experience working with children, adolescents, or transition-age youth; or a high school diploma or GED/HiSET and at least two years of related experience.
• Experience navigating child- and family-serving systems and helping families understand and access available services and supports.
• Ability to use lived experience purposefully and appropriately to foster empowerment, model hope, and strengthen caregiver confidence without providing clinical treatment.
• Strong interpersonal, conflict-resolution, verbal, and written communication skills, including the ability to remain calm and supportive during behavioral health crises.
• Ability to work respectfully and effectively with families and team members from diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, religious, socioeconomic, gender-identity, and LGBTQ+ backgrounds.
• Strong organization and time-management skills, with the ability to address urgent needs, manage changing priorities, and complete timely documentation.
• Familiarity with internet, email, word-processing, agency communication, and electronic documentation systems.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation available during working hours for mobile and community-based services required.
• Ability to work the assigned schedule within an essential-staff crisis program and meet the physical requirements of the role, with or without reasonable accommodation.
