Qualifications

  • Active license to practice law in the state of Washington.
  • Minimum 3 years of family law experience or substantial family law experience for mid-level candidates.
  • Proficiency in drafting pleadings, motions, and court documents; strong advocacy skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel and representation in family law matters including divorce, custody, and support.
  • Draft, file, and respond to pleadings, motions, stipulations, and agreements.
  • Prepare cases for hearings, mediations, settlements, and trials; advocate effectively in court.
  • Develop parenting plans and child support proposals aligned with client needs and law.

Family Law Attorney
Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Family Law Attorney to join a well-established practice serving clients throughout Pierce County and King County. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who is confident managing their own caseload and wants the autonomy to run cases while having strong paralegal, administrative, and operational support behind them.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal counsel and representation to clients in family law matters, including divorce, custody, visitation, child support, spousal maintenance, and temporary orders.
  • Draft, file, and respond to pleadings, motions, stipulations, agreements, and other court documents.
  • Prepare and present cases at hearings, mediations, settlement conferences, and trials; advocate effectively in court.
  • Develop parenting plans, custody agreements, and child support proposals tailored to clients needs and applicable law.
  • Work collaboratively with clients to assess case strategy, set expectations, and provide regular case updates.
  • Negotiate settlements and engage in alternative dispute resolution, including mediation and collaborative law processes.
  • Conduct legal research, analyze statutes, case law, and procedural rules to support case strategy and drafting.
  • Manage caseload efficiently using firm case management systems; maintain accurate client files and billing records.
  • Interview and prepare witnesses, collect and organize evidence, and coordinate with experts when needed.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical obligations, confidentiality, and professional responsibilities; maintain positive client relations and firm reputation.
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the state bar.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience practicing family law (or demonstrated substantial family law experience for mid-level candidates); strong preference for attorneys with litigation experience.
  • Proven working knowledge of family law principles and procedures; must have experience with Family Law matters.
  • Familiarity with dissolution (divorce) proceedings, drafting and negotiating parenting plans, child support calculations and agreements, spousal maintenance (alimony) matters, and temporary orders is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated courtroom experience including hearings, motion practice, and trial preparation.
  • Excellent written and oral advocacy, negotiation, and client counseling skills; ability to explain complex legal issues clearly and compassionately.
  • Strong legal research and analytical abilities; proficiency with legal research tools and citation.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage a busy caseload, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with case management software, e-filing systems, and standard office technology; comfort with remote client communication when required.
  • High ethical standards, sensitivity to client needs in emotionally charged matters, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Valid drivers license and willingness to travel to courts, mediations, and client meetings as needed.
