A warm, active family in San Francisco is hiring a full-time Family Assistant/House Manager. Two parents and two children, ages 5 and 8. The family is generous, fair, and committed to paying for every hour worked, and they keep close relationships with past household staff.
The Role
This role exists to take the mental load of running the home off the parents. You will own the household day to day: laundry, cooking, keeping the home in order, vendor coordination, and a share of kid pickups and evenings.
This is a hands-on role for someone sharp, organized, and fully comfortable doing the details. The family has specific ways they like things done. You will be trained directly, and you will be expected to learn those methods and replicate them exactly.
This is not an executive assistant role. The family has a separate executive assistant, and you will coordinate closely with them.
Core Responsibilities
- Family laundry for parents and kids, following the household's laundry system exactly, including delicates and quality garments
- Cooking simple, well-executed family meals: steaming vegetables, searing proteins, and finishing sous vide
- Tidying, dishes, and wiping down counters and tables (a house cleaner handles deep cleaning)
- Picking up one of the kids from school daily and dividing activity driving with a parent
- Making dinner and putting the kids to bed when the parents go out
- Coordinating with the kids' teacher and providers on schedules and logistics
- Keeping a shared, visible task list so nothing lives only in your head
- Building and maintaining a household manual for how everything is done
Household and Vendor Management
- Fully owning the house cleaner, gardener, and service providers, from scheduling through inspecting results and giving feedback
- Holding vendors to the family's standards, and helping find replacements when standards are not met
- Vetting the right specialist for each job, scheduling repairs and maintenance, and seeing them through to done
- Planning around arrival windows and building in buffers so the family's day is never disrupted
- Handling household tasks while the family is away on long weekends during ski season
Travel
- At least two weeks a year traveling with the family
- Possible eight-week stay in New York tied to the kids' school, with weekends home
- Travel time is paid, you get your own hotel room, and all meals and rides are covered whenever you are away from home
