Job summary

Annandale Public School is seeking a Fall Play Technical Director to lead technical aspects of the production, collaborating with the Fall Play Director to design, build, and oversee scenery, lighting, and sound.

You will supervise student crew, coordinate rehearsals, and ensure safety and organization throughout build, performances, and strike, while maintaining equipment and spaces for a successful show.

  • Previous experience in technical theater, scenic construction, lighting, sound, or stage production is preferred.
  • Candidates must be able to adjust their schedule to attend rehearsals, performances, and production work sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with the Fall Play Director throughout all phases of the production.

  • Design and execute lighting and sound for performances.
  • Facilitate and supervise student technical crew members in set construction, painting, lighting, sound, and backstage operations.
  • Maintain a safe and organized technical work environment.
  • Coordinate technical needs during rehearsals and performances.
  • Attend and facilitate all required technical rehearsals.
  • Oversee the safe use, maintenance, and storage of technical theater equipment.
  • Facilitate strike and restoration of performance and shop spaces following the final performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Activities Director.

Fall Play Technical Director

Job Summary:

This position works in close collaboration with the Fall Play Director to oversee all technical aspects of the school production. Responsibilities include designing, constructing, and coordinating scenic, lighting, and sound elements; supervising and mentoring student technical crew members; facilitating technical rehearsals; maintaining technical equipment and workspaces; and ensuring a safe, organized, and successful production from initial build through strike.

Responsible to:
  • The Activities Director, who provides overall objectives in conjunction with the respective Principal.
Supervises:
  • Student technical crew members participating in the fall play production.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Work collaboratively with the Fall Play Director throughout all phases of the production.
  2. Design, construct, and oversee the completion of scenic elements for the production.
  3. Design and execute lighting and sound for performances.
  4. Facilitate and supervise student technical crew members in set construction, painting, lighting, sound, and backstage operations.
  5. Maintain a safe and organized technical work environment.
  6. Coordinate technical needs during rehearsals and performances.
  7. Attend and facilitate all required technical rehearsals.
  8. Oversee the safe use, maintenance, and storage of technical theater equipment.
  9. Facilitate strike and restoration of performance and shop spaces following the final performance.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned by the Activities Director.
Staff Responsibilities:
  1. Supports the educational philosophy and goals of the school theater program.
  2. Maintains positive working relationships with students, staff, and volunteers.
  3. Promotes teamwork, responsibility, and safety throughout the production process.
  4. Performs such other duties as assigned by the Activities Director.
Administrative Duties:
  1. Prepare technical elements necessary for rehearsals and performances.
  2. Coordinate technical production schedules with the Play Director.
  3. Monitor inventory and recommend equipment or material needs.
  4. Ensure proper care, maintenance, and storage of theater equipment and supplies.
Student Responsibilities:
  1. Provide instruction and supervision for student technical crew members.
  2. Promote safe work habits and proper use of tools and equipment.
  3. Encourage responsibility, collaboration, and skill development among students.
  4. Supervise students during rehearsals, performances, work sessions, and strike.
Finance, Equipment and Facilities:
  1. Maintain theater spaces, scenery, lighting, sound equipment, and technical storage areas.
  2. Ensure proper setup and restoration of performance spaces.
  3. Promote responsible use and care of school property and technical equipment.
  4. Secure facilities and equipment following rehearsals and performances.
Additional Responsibilities:
  1. Attend production planning meetings as scheduled.
  2. Participate in required district trainings and meetings.
Salary:

Varies based on experience in accordance with the teacher's master agreement.
