Job summary

Berman Hebrew Academy seeks a Part-Time Technical Director to provide ongoing support for sound, lighting, and projection during regular school-year productions. Regular School-Year Responsibilities

The Part-Time Technical Director will serve on a fixed stipend basis for regularly scheduled duties performed during the academic year.

Annual Stipend: $4,500

Regular Schedule:

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
  • Approximately 4 hours per week for two weeks prior to each tech week

In addition to the regular schedule, the Technical Director will be expected to support three designated production tech weeks:

  • Fall Production: November 8–16
  • Middle School Production: January 4–10
  • Spring Production: March 28–April 4

During these tech weeks, responsibilities will include technical rehearsals, production preparation, cue programming, equipment setup, student crew supervision, performance support, and strike as needed to ensure the successful execution of performances.

Regular responsibilities throughout the year include:

  • Maintaining and troubleshooting sound, lighting, and projection systems.
  • Supporting rehearsals, performances, and school events.
  • Assisting with scenic construction, installation, and strike.
  • Organizing and maintaining technical inventories and storage areas.
  • Training and mentoring student technicians, with a focus on Middle School and Upper School students.
  • Supporting the educational mission of the Performing Arts Department through hands‑on technical theatre instruction.
  • Assisting with facility upkeep and preparation for performances and events.
Additional Rental and Event Compensation

In addition to the annual stipend, the Technical Director will be compensated for work associated with outside rentals, community events, and special programs occurring outside of the regular weekly schedule.

Rental/Event Rate: $50 per hour

Responsibilities may include:

  • Meeting with rental clients to assess technical needs.
  • Coordinating event setup and strike.
  • Operating sound, lighting, and projection systems.
  • Supervising the use of school facilities and equipment.
  • Providing on-site technical support during rental events.
  • Ensuring compliance with facility policies and procedures.

Whenever possible, compensation for rental support will be funded through rental revenue generated by the Performing Arts Center.

Qualifications
  • B.A in Technical Theatre
  • Demonstrated experience with theatrical sound and lighting systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and maintain technical theatre equipment.
  • Experience supporting live performances and events.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students of all ages, particularly Middle School and Upper School students.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive educational environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years in an education environment
  • 2+ years shop management experience
  • Experience training student technical crews.
  • Previous work in educational theatre settings.
  • Experience supporting community events and facility rentals.
