Per course adjunct faculty for the Single Subject Teaching Credential program's course, SSTE 554-02 and 454/554-02

Qualifications

SSTE 554 02- Foundations of Adolescent Literacy (3 Units)

Moraga Campus: Meets THURSDAYS, 4:45pm - 7:30pm on campus

August 31-December 18, 2026

This course will explore Adolescent Literacy through the lens of secondary curriculum. We will specifically address the integration of reading and writing across content areas, academic language, vocabulary instruction, comprehension strategies, and digital literacy. We will explore how various disabilities (e.g. dyslexia,....) can impact literacy instruction and explore ways to meet the needs of these students. We will address the literacy needs of English Language Learners, speakers of non-dominant varieties of English, students with disabilities and youth who are developing 21st century literacy skills. We will specifically look at ways to develop students’ capacities as effective readers, writers, listeners and speakers through asset based pedagogies

Instructors are sought with teaching experience in the Social Sciences, Math, Art and PE, among others. Selected instructors will work closely with the faculty teaching the general methods portions of the course.

Requirements to teach this course:

At least four years experience teaching in a Title I secondary public school with majority students of color within the past 10 years. Subject area of expertise/credential should be specified in the resumé.

Experience teaching and utilizing the latest research-based strategies in critical pedagogy, culturally sustaining pedagogy, and/or funds of knowledge/community cultural wealth.

Effectively uses multiple pedagogical strategies including: community building activities; Socratic Seminars; heterogeneous groupwork.

Does not rely only on lecture and discussion-based teaching techniques in 50% of teaching

Has used alternative forms of assessment (performance, presentation, and/or multimodal) with secondary students and can guide teacher candidates in the development and use of standards-based assessments.

CalTPA knowledge or willingness to learn.

Masters degree, preferably in Education or the Subject Matter Discipline

Please note that courses will be assigned to current qualified adjunct faculty members who apply during the first 14 days of the posting in the following order:

1. Seniority of those who have taught the course previously up to their average.
2. Seniority of those who have not taught the course up to their average.
3. Seniority rotation above their average up to the maximum units allowed.

Candidates must perform all course-related work within the State of California.

Salary: $6,480 - $10,308 dependent on qualifications. The salary range for this position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here .

If the course is not assigned to a current qualified adjunct faculty member under the process above, it may be assigned to a new hire after the 14 day period for current adjunct faculty members to apply has elapsed.
