Job summary

City Union Mission in Kansas City, MO seeks a Peer Support Specialist to oversee the Center environment and the daily well-being of every client, including meals, hygiene and routines across day and night shifts, including holidays.

You will lead and mentor clients, document observations for the care plan, monitor safety, respond to emergencies, and reflect Biblical hospitality through interactions with guests while supporting program indicators and transitions.

Qualifications

• Must be a genuine believer in Jesus Christ and able to communicate the Gospel when opportunities arise.
• Biblical character and living consistent with evangelical faith.
• Member in good standing of a recognized Protestant church.
• Commitment to serving the poor and homeless as stated in City Union Mission's mission.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, mentorship and shepherding to clients during assigned shifts and small groups.
• Provide verbal and documented observations to the Care Manager for input on the care plan.
• Monitor hygiene, showers and laundry; lead team groups and teach daily routines.
• Respond to emergencies and deescalate crises as needed.
• Conduct safety checks and engage guests with Biblical hospitality.
• Understand program indicators including capacity, occupancy, service velocity, effectiveness, and transitions.
