City Union Mission in Kansas City, MO seeks a Peer Support Specialist to mentor clients in recovery, guiding them toward personal goals and resilience within Christ-centered programs.

Responsibilities include leading shifts, fostering a dignified environment, coordinating volunteers, and upholding safety and accountability across activities in the Christian Life Center and New Life Center.

Qualifications

• To be a genuine believer in Jesus Christ and communicate the Gospel whenever opportunities arise.
• Solid Biblical character and refrain from immoral lifestyle that could undermine testimony.
• Member in good standing of a recognized Protestant, evangelical church.
• Agree with City Union Mission faith statement.
• Genuinely committed to serving the poor and homeless.
• Be sober-minded, free from influence of alcohol, drugs, or substances that could cloud judgment.

Responsibilities

• Exemplify Jesus Christ and share the Gospel at points of care.
• Provide leadership, mentorship, and shepherding to clients on assigned shifts.
• Engage with clients relationally, balancing presence with accountability and structure.
• Coordinate mealtime, fellowship environments, and community events.
• Welcome and orient volunteers and interns, integrating them into daily routines.
• Maintain a safe, calm, structured environment for clients, visitors, and volunteers.
