Job summary
City Union Mission in Kansas City, MO seeks a Peer Support Specialist to lead day, evening, and night shelter operations, safeguarding residents and guiding them toward hopeful outcomes while sharing the Gospel. Qualifications
- Be a genuine believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and able to clearly communicate the Gospel.
- Member in good standing of a recognized Protestant, evangelical church.
- Committed to serving the poor and homeless per City Union Mission.
- Sobriety and freedom from alcohol/drugs for ministry clarity.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and shepherding to clients during shifts.
- Engage relationally with clients and maintain accountability and structure.
- Coordinate mealtime and fellowship environments and demonstrate servant leadership.
- Welcome and support volunteers and interns in chapel, meals, and routines.
- Oversee shift operations including safety, cleanliness, and center flow.
- Monitor capacity, beds, census, and intake barriers; ensure proper utilization.
- Provide timely observations of client behavior to leadership.
- Monitor hygiene, shower, and laundry routines.
