Job summary
City Union Mission in Kansas City, MO seeks a Peer Support Specialist to lead day, evening, and night shelter operations, safeguarding residents and guiding them toward hopeful outcomes while sharing the Gospel. You will coordinate meals, welcome volunteers, supervise shift safety and center flow, and document observations for leadership.
Qualifications
- Be a genuine believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and able to clearly communicate the Gospel.
- Member in good standing of a recognized Protestant, evangelical church.
- Committed to serving the poor and homeless per City Union Mission.
- Sobriety and freedom from alcohol/drugs for ministry clarity.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and shepherding to clients during shifts.
- Engage relationally with clients and maintain accountability and structure.
- Coordinate mealtime and fellowship environments and demonstrate servant leadership.
- Welcome and support volunteers and interns in chapel, meals, and routines.
- Oversee shift operations including safety, cleanliness, and center flow.
- Monitor capacity, beds, census, and intake barriers; ensure proper utilization.
- Provide timely observations of client behavior to leadership.
- Monitor hygiene, shower, and laundry routines.
