Job summary

Cleveland County is seeking a Maintenance Worker to care for the fairgrounds and surrounding county properties. This hands-on role combines custodial tasks, outdoor grounds work, and light equipment operation, with shifts that may include early mornings or late nights during events.

Responsibilities include sweeping, sanitizing restrooms, setting up rooms with tables and chairs, mowing and edging grounds, and operating mowers, tractors, forklifts, and floor scrubbers.

Qualifications

  • Clear communication and outdoor work in all weather.
  • Ability to perform physical labor and set up tables, chairs, and panels.

Responsibilities

  • Sweep, vacuum, and mop floors in buildings and restrooms.
  • Clean, sanitize, stock restrooms and break rooms.
  • Empty trash and recycling containers.
  • Dust and wipe surfaces, furniture, and fixtures.
  • Wash windows, walls, and clean entrance glass and doors.
  • Mow, edge and weed grounds; maintain landscape appearance.
  • Set up rooms with tables, chairs and equipment for events.
  • Pick up litter during and after events.
  • Operate maintenance equipment (mowers, tractors, forklift, scrubbers).
  • Inspect equipment for safety hazards and report issues.

Job description

Position Overview

The Fairgrounds Maintenance Worker helps maintain the cleanliness, safety, and appearance of the Fairgrounds and surrounding county properties. This hands-on role combines outdoor maintenance, custodial duties, and light equipment operation. The position requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Early morning or late-night shifts may be required based on event schedules.


Compensation

  • $38,500.00

Essential Functions

Knowledge and Skills


  • Ability to work independently and follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Strong customer service orientation and professionalism.

  • Basic problem-solving and time management skills.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

  • Comfortable with physical labor and working outdoors in all weather.

  • Ability to maintain physical activity for extended periods of time (setting up tables, chairs and panels)


Custodial and Janitorial Duties


  • Sweep, vacuum, and mop floors in buildings and restrooms.

  • Clean, sanitize and stock restrooms and break rooms, including sinks, toilets, and floors.

  • Empty trash and recycling containers.

  • Dust and wipe down surfaces, furniture, and fixtures.

  • Wash windows, walls, and clean entrance glass and doors.


Grounds and Facility Maintenance


  • Mow, edge and weed grounds to maintain landscape appearance.

  • Set up rooms with tables, chairs and other equipment as needed.

  • Pick up litter and debris on county properties, especially during and after events.

  • Clear entrances and walkways to ensure safety and accessibility.


Vehicle and Equipment Operation


  • Operate commercial and light maintenance equipment such as mowers, tractors, forklift and floor scrubbers.

  • Perform minor equipment maintenance and report any safety issues or mechanical failures.


Equipment Maintenance


  • Inspect equipment for safety hazards before use.

  • Perform general maintenance or report needed repairs on equipment as required.


Compliance and Safety


  • Work in a safe manner for oneself and others, keeping the work area clean and safe.

  • Follow safety rules and practices and use safety equipment as required.

  • The employee shall be knowledgeable and follow Cleveland County’s safety policies and procedures. The employee must immediately report any accidents, unusual occurrences, or any other safety-related issues to his/her supervisor.


Minimum Qualifications


  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License

  • Previous custodial or maintenance experience preferred

  • Experience operating tractor, mower, forklift and utility vehicles preferred.


Special Requirements


  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without sponsorship.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check and drug screening.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license from a U.S. State or Territory to perform necessary job-related travel.
