Job summary

SmartRecruiters, Inc. in New York City is recruiting for an Associate Benefits Opportunity Specialist to facilitate fair hearing actions and resolutions for Cash Assistance, SNAP and Medicaid cases.

You will conduct in-person or phone conferences with clients and prepare evidence packets for hearings, ensuring complete case documentation. Under supervision, you will review case stipulations, notify staff of required actions, and provide guidance on the appeals process.

Qualifications

• Four-year high school diploma or equivalent and three years of full-time experience in social/human services or related setting (client services or employment planning/counseling).
• Bachelor’s degree with 18 months of full-time experience as BOS or as described above.
• Credit substitutions allowed: 60 semester credits per 9 months of experience; minimum 18 months in relevant roles.
• Experience in social/human services, client services or employment programming is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct conferences with Cash Assistance recipients to review actions on CA, SNAP and Medicaid.
• Review databases to verify action accuracy and route cases to Fair Hearings/FIA units.
• Explain Fair Hearing processes and rights to appeal to clients or representatives.
• Prepare electronic Fair Hearing evidence packets for Office of Administrative Hearings.
• Monitor queues and adjust workload with supervisor guidance.
