Job summary

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is seeking a Scientific Data Engineer to build software for scientific data management and analysis within the Scientific Data Division. You will model FAIR data structures and work with Neurodata Without Borders and LinkML ecosystems, enabling bioscience research.

The role focuses on multi-modal data modeling, ML/AI support for biological data, and collaboration with a team of computer scientists, data scientists, and bioinformaticians.

Qualifications

• Experience developing software in a scientific/research context.
• Hands-on production software development for data models or pipelines.
• Strong Python programming
• Proficiency with Git and CI systems.
• Experience contributing to open source projects.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop software for scientific data management and analysis.
• Model FAIR data structures and management solutions for bioscience apps.
• Support ML/AI use of biological data with well-structured, accessible data.
• Maintain open source software products and CI/testing.
• Develop HPC and cloud solutions for visualization and analysis of complex data.
• Collaborate with diverse science teams to design technical solutions.
• Train scientists and researchers in using the software at workshops.
