Job summary

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is seeking a Scientific Data Engineer in the Scientific Data Division. You will design software for managing and analyzing complex bioscience datasets, implement FAIR data models, and enable efficient access to data for ML/AI workflows.

You will collaborate with Neurodata Without Borders, LinkML, and Joint Genome Institute, maintain open-source software, and develop HPC/cloud solutions for data visualization and analysis.

Qualifications

  • Five years of related experience or equivalent in software for data modeling/analysis
  • Experience developing software in a scientific/research context
  • Hands-on production experience building scientific data models and pipelines
  • Strong Python programming plus working knowledge of C/JavaScript

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop user-friendly software for scientific data management and analysis
  • Develop FAIR data models and management solutions for bioscience apps
  • Support ML/AI use by structuring and documenting data
  • Collaborate with Neurodata Without Borders, LinkML, and Joint Genome Institute communities
  • Maintain open source software products with CI and testing
  • Design and maintain HPC and cloud solutions for visualization and analysis of biological data
  • Develop ML/AI solutions for bioscience data in collaboration with scientists
  • Train scientists and research software engineers via workshops and conferences
  • Demonstrate judgment in method selection and design decisions
  • Network with senior internal and external colleagues
