The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Radiology invites applications for an Open Rank - Faculty Radiologist position in Cardiopulmonary Imaging. The role supports in-person, fully remote, or hybrid work arrangements and allows tailoring between diagnostic chest imaging, interventional chest procedures, and diagnostic cardiovascular imaging.

Fully remote, hybrid and/or in-person Open Rank - Faculty Radiologist Position in Cardiopulmonary Imaging at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB)

The Department of Radiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a radiologist to join the cardiopulmonary imaging section. In-person, fully remote, and hybrid employment opportunities are available. You can tailor your work between diagnostic chest imaging, interventional chest procedures, and diagnostic cardiovascular imaging.

With the section under the leadership of Dr. Elliott Gozansky and the department under the leadership of Dr. Mahmud Mossa-Basha, we are transforming the typical cardiothoracic work environment. Our section works as a collective team reading in shifts. We care about our patients, medical students, residents, fellows, and each other. The team reading approach enables us to have flexibility and we work together to minimize daily moral injuries. We have a clean list at the end of most days. We are compensated for outside over-reads. We have an embedded tech who helps with protocols, phone calls, and contacting physicians. Our residents are happily engaged and assist with all aspects of the reading room. Our residents eagerly enjoy hot-seat case conferences and truly want to learn and do better. We have multiple fellow slots and typically have one or more fellows per year. Research opportunities are plentiful and academic productivity is highly valued!

Qualified applicants should be ABR-certified or eligible, have completed fellowship training in cardiothoracic imaging or have proficient experience in cardiothoracic radiology, and must be eligible to practice medicine in Alabama.

The UAB Department of Radiology consists of 105 faculty members, including 19 physicists and PhD researchers. There are 57 diagnostic radiology, integrated/independent interventional radiology, and nuclear medicine residents. There is strong emphasis on research and educational activities, including supervision and teaching of residents, fellows, and medical students, along with mentorship.

Academic rank, compensation, and tenure eligibility will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. Fully remote appointments are not eligible for tenure-track consideration. Approval for remote work arrangements is contingent upon the candidate’s location and other institutional and departmental factors.
