Job description

Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington is seeking a full-time Psychology Instructor to join our faculty beginning in the Spring 2027 academic term. We are looking for an educator who is committed to fostering a collaborative and supportive workplace where every team member feels valued, respected, and empowered to succeed. Courses are offered day, evening and some weekends depending on student demands. Courses are delivered in a variety of instructional modalities, including:

• In-person courses - instruction conducted on the Bloomington campus.
• Online courses - asynchronous courses delivered through the College's learning management system.
• Hybrid Courses – Courses that include a required synchronous component that may be delivered in person, remotely via Zoom, or through a combination of in-person and remote instruction.

Most courses are offered in eight-week sessions, providing an accelerated yet supportive learning experience. Faculty may have the opportunity to teach across multiple instructional modalities based on departmental needs, qualifications, and scheduling preferences.

Salary: $50,000 9-month faculty (Aug - May); Summer contracts are available based on student enrollment. A 100% summer contract would pay 1/3 of the 9-month contract amount.

Major Responsibilities:

• Deliver high-quality instruction that promotes student success while teaching assigned psychology courses in accordance with Ivy Tech curriculum, course outcomes, and College policies.
• Foster an engaging, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment by implementing evidence-based teaching strategies that encourage critical thinking, active participation, and academic achievement.
• Leverage instructional technology and innovative teaching practices to enhance learning, improve student engagement, and support multiple learning modalities.
• Develop, adapt, and assess course materials, assignments, examinations, and other instructional resources to meet course objectives and student needs.
• Maintain accurate and timely records of attendance, grades, student progress, and other required documentation in accordance with College policies.
• Build meaningful relationships with students through proactive communication, academic advising, mentoring, and timely feedback that supports persistence, retention, and completion.
• Collaborate professionally with faculty, staff, and administrators to advance departmental initiatives, support student success, and contribute to a positive and collegial workplace culture.
• Actively engage in the life of the College by participating in departmental and campus initiatives, serving on committees, supporting student organizations and events, and fostering partnerships that strengthen connections between the College and the local community.
• Maintain a safe, respectful, and welcoming educational environment that supports learning and reflects the mission and values of Ivy Tech Community College.

A qualified faculty member in psychology meets the discipline standard through one of two routes:

• Possesses an earned master's or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in psychology, educational psychology, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, social psychology, or any other professionally recognized specialty in psychology, or
• Possesses an earned master's or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in any field with 18 graduate semester hours in psychology-related courses, including a course in statistics and/or research methodology.

Required Competencies:

• Experience teaching psychology or related courses at the post-secondary level, preferably in a community college setting.
• Demonstrated proficiency using a learning management system (e.g., Canvas) to deliver instruction, communicate with students, assess learning, and manage course content.
• Experience using web conferencing and virtual instruction platforms (e.g., Zoom) to facilitate synchronous online meetings, office hours, and remote instruction.
• Strong technology skills with the ability to effectively integrate instructional technologies into both face-to-face and online learning environments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated commitment to student engagement and success.
• Experience teaching in multiple instructional modalities, including face-to-face, online, hybrid, and/or synchronous virtual environments, is preferred.
