Qualifications

  • Master's degree in physician assistant studies, medical science or pharmaceutical degree from an accredited program.
  • Clinical experience working as a physician assistant, physician or pharmacist.
  • Current NCCPA Certification, board certification (MD or DO) or pharmacist certification.
  • Valid physician assistant, physician or pharmacist license for the State of Rhode Island or eligibility to obtain such licensure.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the program director, faculty and staff to ensure an educational environment that reflects the PA program's mission and accreditation standards.
  • Prepares and delivers current curriculum using diverse teaching methods and standardized tools.
  • Measures student understanding of course content and maintains accurate attendance and achievement records.
  • Distributes syllabi with objectives, texts, attendance policies and evaluation criteria.
  • Maintains regular office hours for student consultation and guidance.
  • References students to university resources for information, financial aid, career development and other support.
  • Mentors students at risk of failure and participates in remedial instruction.
  • Updates program handbooks and participates in faculty and committee meetings.
  • Participates in student orientation, admissions events, open houses and related activities.
  • Supports extracurricular activities and advises student groups.
  • Involves in admissions decisions and contributes to curriculum design in accordance with ARC-PA standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Summary

Collaborates with the program director, faculty and staff to ensure that the educational environment demonstrates qualities needed to provide medical education in accordance with the physician assistant program's mission, goals and accreditation standards for physician assistant education.

Essential Job Functions
  • Prepares and delivers relevant and current curriculum using a variety of teaching methods and standardized tools that accurately reflect effectiveness of course content including instructional objectives, expected competencies, entrustable professional activities (EPA), content outlines, lecture notes, instructional methods/activities, handouts, and evaluation tools that are distributed to teaching faculty and/or students
  • Measures student understanding of course content in an objective fashion
  • Maintains accurate records of student attendance, academic achievement, and performance in accordance with university policies, procedures and accreditation requirements
  • Distributes to each student, in each course, a university approved syllabus that includes course objectives, texts, attendance policy and materials required for course and evaluation criteria
  • Posts and maintains regular office hours for student consultation per guidelines set forth in the faculty manual
  • Refers students to appropriate university resources for information, financial assistance, career development, or other guidance
  • Monitors and communicates consistently with any student in danger of failure or in need of individual counseling
  • Assists with updating program handbooks and other programmatic manuals
  • Participates in student advising and remedial instruction
  • Attends scheduled faculty meetings, department meetings, faculty orientation, training programs, and committee meetings of which they are members
  • Serves as a committee member as assigned by the dean, department chair, program director, or elected by the faculty members at large
  • Participates in student orientation, admissions events, open houses, Family Weekend, competitions, professional conferences, and other events as directed by the department chair or director
  • Supports extracurricular activities which advance the PA Program and/or PA profession by attendance and/or service as an advisor
  • Selects applicants for admission to the program
  • Designs, implements, coordinates, and evaluates curriculum in accordance with accreditation and university requirements
  • Performs in accordance with university and program policies and procedures including maintaining familiarity with Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant Inc. (ARC-PA) standards
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
