Job summary

MCPHS School of Medical Imaging and Therapeutics seeks a full-time faculty member to teach and mentor students in the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - General program. Responsibilities include classroom, lab, online and clinical instruction across Extended Abdominal, MSK, OB/GYN, Breast and Small parts, plus service and scholarly activity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree is the minimum; Master’s preferred.
• ARDMS certification in OB/GYN and Extended Abdominal required; others preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of work experience in radiology general sonography or OB/GYN.
• Minimum of 1 year of college/university teaching experience preferred but not essential.
• Commitment to undergraduate, graduate and/or professional education and student success.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and interact with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Record of scholarly activities commensurate with an academic appointment.
• Evidence of teaching excellence.

Job description

The School of Medical Imaging and Therapeutics (SMIT) seeks a full-time faculty member to deliver high quality learning experiences and education for students in the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - General. The faculty member willengage in teaching, service and scholarship activities, and work collaboratively with colleagues across the University as well as with the Dean of SMIT and the Program Director of the DMS General program. Additionally, the incumbent provides mentorship to students and contributes to the visibility, impact and reputation of the University and its programs through research and scholarly engagement. The selected candidate will have responsibilities teaching classroom, lab, online and clinical courses to Undergraduate students. Subject matters may include Extended Abdominal, MSK, OB/GYN, Breast, Small parts and board review. Rank and salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

• Delivers didactic, laboratory and/or experiential instruction via multiple formats (in-person, online, or in a ‘blended’ format) in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography General Program.
• Provides students with an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the School, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines and evaluation criteria.
• Provides engaging assignments that demonstrate the real-world applications of concepts covered.
• Participates in service activities; serves on committees; serves on regional, state, or national organization committees and volunteer activities; represents the program and University in/at community functions; attends School and institutional activities such as Commencement and ceremonies; and supports student activities such as health fairs and service projects.
• Participates in scholarship resulting in conference presentations, publishable manuscripts, peer-reviewed instructional materials, or other outcomes consistent with expectations for scholarly activities described in the Faculty Manual.
• Use the University’s learning management system to post syllabus, assignments and other materials and to communicate with students.
• Advises and assists students through office hours or scheduled appointments, by phone or email, and through other University-approved mechanisms.
• Provides service including student mentoring, ongoing course development, and assessment.
• Attends and participates in monthly School and Department meetings, University ceremonies, and other major events, and serves as a member of University, School and/or Department committees, as assigned.
• Contributes to periodic reviews, evaluations, and revisions of departmental course offerings.
• Maintains advanced knowledge in discipline and areas of expertise.
• Builds and maintains relationships with professional organizations involved with the healthcare sector.
• Teaches at least two to three class or labs per semester or as determined by the program leadership.
• Assists in the development of community contacts, externship site set-up, and community involvement, student service learning and Interprofessional
• Assists with the coordination of Advisory Board meetings at least once per year
• Maintains the continuity and relevance of the program curriculum
• Assists the dean program director and faculty with the maintenance of continued accreditation and annual reporting
• Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor.

Required:

• Typical office or administrative working conditions. Faculty is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions. Work is primarily sedentary in nature; there are no special physical
