Qualifications

  • Associate's degree required with ARDMS/ARRT credentials.
  • Minimum two years of clinical experience as a registered sonographer.
  • Credentials in Abdomen (AB) and OB/GYN (OB) are required.

Job description

This position is responsible for providing effective instruction for the Medical Sonography curriculum and for planning and coordination of student clinical experiences.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as liaison for the Imaging Department Head, Medical Sonography Program Director and the Medical Sonography faculty with affiliating clinical agencies; maintain ongoing communications to discuss, arrange, and improve clinical rotations and experiences.
  • Teach clinical and/or didactic courses in accordance with published course descriptions and the schedule of courses.
  • Coordinate clinical education with didactic education as assigned by the program director.
  • Conduct weekly clinical site visits to evaluate students; evaluate and ensure the effectiveness of clinical affiliates and education centers.
  • Communicate with the Medical Sonography Program Director regarding clinical needs and placements.
  • Select learning experiences that facilitate the attainment of course student learning outcomes.
  • Request clinical sites and observation experiences from clinical agencies and make weekly site visits to assure adequacy of clinical instruction and experience.
  • Evaluate students to ensure adequate clinical experience.
  • Schedule students for clinical rotations with affiliating agencies to ensure effective learning experiences.
  • Participate in overall program evaluation to maintain compliance with the standards and guidelines established by CAAHEP and JRC-DMS.
  • Compile and analyze enrollment data to project need for part‑time faculty and assess completion rates.
  • Perform course documentation duties for assigned courses; instruct and guide the class efficiently and effectively.
  • Maintain accurate scholastic records of students and submit required reports to the Imaging Department Head and the registrar.
  • Grade and return student work in a timely manner.
  • Attend clinical agency planning meetings and help maintain current affiliation agreements and develop new agreements to meet program needs.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director, Faculty, and Imaging Department Head to budget for equipment, supplies, and professional development for the department.
  • Correlate clinical education with didactic education.
  • Review and recommend additions to library holdings, textbooks, audio‑visual, or other teaching aids.
  • Support the Program Director to assure effective program operation.
  • Participate in the Program assessment process.
  • Cooperate with the Program Director in periodic review and revision of clinical course materials.
  • Organize and maintain laboratory and clinical areas, including physical facilities, equipment, and materials in a clean, neat, operating condition when applicable.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the discipline and educational methodologies through continuing professional development.
  • Participate in continuing professional education and community activities related to Medical Sonography.
  • Maintain current knowledge of program policies, procedures, and student progress.
  • Actively participate in faculty committees and departmental meetings; assist with planning and serve in leadership.
  • Provide regular and timely feedback to students regarding academic progress.
  • Maintain regular office hours.
  • Assist with tracking completion or reentry of students for the program.
  • Complete orientation of students entering the program.

Requirements
  • Associate's degree.
  • Appropriate credential(s) specific to the concentrations offered (Abdomen and OB/GYN).
  • Minimum of two years of clinical experience as a registered sonographer in the professional sonography field.
  • Must be credentialed in Abdomen (AB) and OB/GYN (OB) by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or in Sonography R.T. (S) ARRT by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
Preferences
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Supervisory and leadership experience in an academic setting.
  • Experience supervising clinical practicums, externships, internships, and/or program development.
  • Three years of full‑time teaching experience as a lead instructor with course coordination experience in medical sonography and/or community college teaching.
