Job summary

Johnson & Wales University in Providence seeks a faculty member to teach hospitality and sport management courses on the campus. You will prepare lessons, deliver content, assess students, and provide timely feedback to support mastery of learning objectives.

Responsibilities include maintaining LMS course sites, recording attendance and grades, developing syllabi, communicating with advisors and chairs, and participating in orientation and college meetings.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in hospitality, sports management, or related field.
  • 18 graduate credits in the discipline plus a master's degree from a regionally accredited institution in higher education.
  • Moderate industry experience in venue management, entertainment, event management, or sport management.
  • Ability to teach classes on campus during daytime hours.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned course(s) on campus by delivering content, preparing materials, grading, and providing feedback.
  • Maintain course site in the LMS and update grade center.
  • Keep accurate records of attendance and academic performance.
  • Distribute syllabus with objectives, materials, attendance policy, and evaluation criteria.
  • Communicate with the department chair and academic counselor for students needing support.
  • Refer students to campus resources and support services.
  • Populate faculty information system with teaching credentials.
  • Attend faculty orientation and meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Summary

Prepares and delivers relevant course content using a variety of teaching methods and assessments that support student learning. Delivers relevant course content on campus or online, as assigned. Maintains that students achieve and demonstrate mastery of stated learning objectives.

Essential Job Functions
  • Teaches assigned course(s) on campus by delivering appropriate course content to students, preparing course materials and lesson plans, grading student work, providing students with robust feedback in a timely manner, and addressing students’ questions and concerns
  • Teaches assigned course (s) online by delivering course content, learning activities and assessments using the university’s learning management system, according to JWU course outlines and online course delivery standards
  • Prepares and maintains course site in the learning management system for dissemination of course materials, assessments, and weekly updating of the grade center in accordance with university requirements
  • Maintains accurate records of student attendance, academic achievement and performance in accordance with university policies and procedures
  • Distributes to each student, in each course, via the learning management system, a university-approved syllabus that includes course objectives, required course materials, attendance policy and evaluation criteria
  • Communicates early with the student, department chair, and academic counselor for any student in danger of failure or in need of individual counseling, using appropriate university systems
  • Refers students to appropriate university sources for information, guidance, financial assistance, career services, library services, academic support, accessibility services, counseling, and other support services
  • Populates the university’s faculty information system with data to establish teaching credentials and maintains data, as needed
  • Attends faculty orientation and meetings, as requested by the college
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in hospitality, sports management, or a related field of study; or, 18 graduate credits in the discipline plus a master's degree from a regionally accredited institution in higher education
  • Moderate amount of industry experience working in venue management, entertainment, event management, or sport management
  • Ability to teach classes on campus during daytime hours
Preferred Qualifications
  • Earned Ph.D. or DBA in hospitality, sports, or a related field of study
  • Experience teaching at the post-secondary level
