Job summary

Johnson & Wales University is seeking qualified individuals to teach accounting courses at the Providence campus. The role includes delivering on-campus content, preparing materials, grading, and providing timely feedback to students.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in accounting or finance or 18 graduate credits plus a master's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
• Moderate industry experience working in accounting.
• Interest or ability to teach accounting topics including cost, managerial, financial or hospitality accounting.
• Ability to teach classes during daytime hours.

Responsibilities

• Teaches assigned course(s) on campus by delivering appropriate course content, preparing materials, grading, and giving timely feedback.
• Teaches online using the university's LMS according to JWU outlines and standards.
• Prepares and maintains course site in the LMS and updates the grade center weekly.
• Maintains records of attendance and academic achievement per university policies.
• Distributes syllabus including objectives and evaluation criteria to each course.
• Communicates with student, department chair, and counselor for students at risk.
• Refers students to university resources for guidance, financial aid, career services, and support.
• Populates the faculty information system to establish teaching credentials.
• Attends faculty orientation and meetings as requested.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

Summary

Prepares and delivers relevant course content using a variety of teaching methods and assessments that support student learning. Delivers relevant course content on campus or online, as assigned. Maintains that students achieve and demonstrate mastery of stated learning objectives.

Essential Job Functions

• Teaches assigned course(s) on campus by delivering appropriate course content to students, preparing course materials and lesson plans, grading student work, providing students with robust feedback in a timely manner, and addressing students’ questions and concerns
• Teaches assigned course (s) online by delivering course content, learning activities and assessments using the university’s learning management system, according to JWU course outlines and online course delivery standards
• Prepares and maintains course site in the learning management system for dissemination of course materials, assessments, and weekly updating of the grade center in accordance with university requirements
• Maintains accurate records of student attendance, academic achievement and performance in accordance with university policies and procedures
• Distributes to each student, in each course, via the learning management system, a university-approved syllabus that includes course objectives, required course materials, attendance policy and evaluation criteria
• Communicates early with the student, department chair, and academic counselor for any student in danger of failure or in need of individual counseling, using appropriate university systems
• Refers students to appropriate university sources for information, guidance, financial assistance, career services, library services, academic support, accessibility services, counseling, and other support services
• Populates the university’s faculty information system with data to establish teaching credentials and maintains data, as needed
• Attends faculty orientation and meetings, as requested by the college
• Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in accounting or finance, or 18 graduate credits in the discipline plus a master's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education
• Moderate amount of industry experience working in accounting
• Experience or interest in advanced accounting, cost accounting, managerial accounting, financial accounting, hospitality accounting, or other areas of accounting
• Ability to teach classes during daytime hours

Preferred Qualifications

• Earned Ph.D. or DBA in accounting or a related field of study
• Earned CPA certification
• Experience teaching at the post-secondary level
