Omnitrans, provider of public mass transit for the San Bernardino Valley in Southern California is seeking a highly skilled professional to join our award-winning team. The ideal Candidate hired will be under general direction to plan, organize, and coordinate the facility section within the Maintenance Department. Supervise Building Equipment Mechanics and other staff assigned areas of maintenance, repair, and alteration of facilities and equipment; monitor budget as it pertains to the facility section.

  • Plans, coordinates and directs building maintenance mechanics in the maintenance of facilities, including installation, repair, and preventative maintenance of equipment and parts such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC, automotive shop repair equipment, floors, and walls; inspects facilities and equipment to assure compliance with maintenance and repair procedures.
  • Establishes and adjusts maintenance, repair and alteration priorities in accordance with work demands, the critical nature of the needs, resources, and availability of work force.
  • Enforces policies and safety regulations; assures shop, employee and equipment safety is constantly monitored and corrective action taken.
  • Procures necessary materials, parts, supplies and services in accordance with established procedures.
  • Plans, schedules and supervises work assigned to Building Maintenance Mechanics, and Custodians; prepares necessary paperwork to reflect assignments; coordinates the change-over from the previous shift/day; evaluates work load for each assigned employee.
  • Directs Custodial crew in maintaining the cleanliness of the facilities.
  • Assists Building Maintenance Mechanics with difficult repair problems; inspects completed work as necessary. Provides direction and guidance to ensure the quality and quantity of workmanship.
  • Assists management in the recruitment, selection and evaluation of employees.
  • Prepares a variety of maintenance reports, work orders, time cards, procurement requests, bulletins, and other maintenance records.
  • Enforces and rates safety performance including rules and regulations compliance and implements corrective action.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises Building Maintenance Mechanics and Custodians. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, labor contracts and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring recommendations, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate's degree (A.A.) or an equivalent from a two-year college or technical school and four (4) or more years of experience including demonstrated competency in supervision or leading the maintenance, repair, and alteration of facilities and equipment; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Formal education and training in practical engineering or related field is desirable.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Must be familiar with current business operating systems, software and programs.

Knowledge of:
  • Transit operations including equipment, bus operation procedures, safety regulations and federal and state public transportation regulations.
  • Principles and practices of administration, supervision and training.
  • Methods, practices, tools, and materials used in maintenance repair, and alterations of facilities and equipment.
  • Principles of heating, air conditioning, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems as it pertains to building maintenance.
  • Buildings construction methods and applicable codes related to alterations and repair of facilities.
  • Labor agreement, rules and regulations, and technical skills required for maintenance of facilities.
Ability to:
  • Effectively supervise, train, develop and motivate subordinates. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals, departments, outside agencies, vendors and the employee' labor union.
  • Obtain and maintain "California UST (Underground Storage Tank) System Operator" certification within the six (6) month probationary period. (Note: this certification requires a renewal test to be taken every two (2) years.)

Candidates will be screened for relevant qualifying experience that consists of an evaluation of education and experience. The most competitively qualified candidateswill be invited to participate in the selection process. The selection process may include a combination of written, performance, and oral examinations. All employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment physical exam, including a drug test, and a criminal background investigation, which will include Live Scan fingerprinting.
