Job summary

The State of Wisconsin invites applications for the Facility Staff Training Program Instructor position, based in Madison at the DOC Central Office. This role develops and delivers training, conducts needs assessments, and evaluates programs for both uniformed and non-uniformed staff.

You will manage curriculum design, delivery, and ongoing staff development with a focus on facility operations, security-related responsibilities, and compliance with state regulations.

Job Title Facility Staff Training Program Instructor

The Department of Corrections (DOC)is focused on public safety through the custody and supervision of those in our care. TheDivision of Management Services is currently recruiting to fill a Facility Staff Training Program Instructor (Staff Development Program Specialist- Senior) position. This position will be headquartered at the DOC Central Office in Madison, WI.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for the development and delivery of training within the Department of Corrections. Responsibilities include conducting needs assessments, curriculum development, delivery and/or coordination, and evaluation of training delivered in the Facility Staff Training and Support (FSTS) Program. Responsibilities also include development, presentation, coordination, monitoring and evaluation of on-going specialized staff development and training programs for DOC staff with an emphasis on staff working in facilities, both uniformed and non-uniformed.

Salary Information

The starting pay is between $58,739 and $96,907 per year, plus excellent benefits. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. The pay schedule/range is 81-03. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have experience:

  • Observing and evaluating progress, providing supervision, counseling and planning for individual skill development.
  • Providing classroom training, to include in-person, virtual and/or hybrid.
  • Evaluating performance and enforcing work rules, policies and procedures to ensure standards are being met.
  • Working in a secured facility or in a security-related role.

In addition to the above, well qualified applicants will have experience:

  • Working in a mentor, lead worker or supervisory role utilizing leadership skills and performance management strategies.
  • Developing training programs, plans, course outlines and establishing training objectives and determining needs
  • Evaluating training sessions and programs by measuring learning, content relevance and overall impact.
  • Having any of the following certifications (POSC Instructor; Firearms and Incapacitating Agents and Weapons Instructor; Fire Science Instructor; CPR and First Aid Instructor)
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and/or with stakeholders outside the organization.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.
