Job summary

Clean Harbors seeks an experienced Facility Operations Manager I to oversee daily plant operations, including drum processing, tank farm activities, and wastewater treatment, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance. You will lead supervisors, drive productivity, and manage waste tracking and inventory across multiple shifts.

The role requires strong leadership, 5–7 years of plant operations experience, and DOT training. Travel up to 10% may be required; a chemistry-related degree is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related field preferred; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • 5–7 years of plant operations or industrial facility management experience.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience managing plant operations and production teams.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily plant operations including drum pumping, drum dumping, tank farm operations, truck loading and unloading, wastewater treatment, fuel blending, shredding operations, inventory management, and waste tracking.
  • Ensure operations comply with all applicable regulations and company policies.
  • Lead, coach, and develop Operations Supervisors, Plant Foremen, and other personnel across multiple areas and shifts.
  • Monitor productivity and set daily production goals to ensure efficiency and throughput.
  • Manage waste identification, routing, storage, segregation, and disposal per regulatory and facility requirements.
  • Partner with General Manager on hiring, employee development, and workforce planning.
  • Analyze performance and identify opportunities to improve productivity and profitability.
  • Maintain ownership of site-specific permits and regulatory compliance.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through Health & Safety procedures and SOPs.

Job description

The Facility Operations Manager I is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the facility to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant processing of hazardous and non-hazardous waste. This position manages multiple operational areas, including drum processing, tank farm operations, truck loading and unloading, wastewater treatment, inventory management, and waste tracking. Working closely with the General Manager, the Facility Operations Manager I provides leadership to plant supervisors and operations personnel while driving operational excellence, regulatory compliance, employee development, and continuous improvement. This role serves as the second-in-command in the absence of the General Manager.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily plant operations, including drum pumping, drum dumping, tank farm operations, truck loading and unloading, wastewater treatment, fuel blending, shredding operations, inventory management, and waste tracking.
  • Ensure all operations are conducted safely and in compliance with company policies and applicable federal, state, local, DOT, and environmental regulations.
  • Lead, coach, and develop Operations Supervisors, Plant Foremen, and other plant personnel across multiple operational areas and shifts.
  • Monitor facility productivity and establish daily production goals to ensure operational efficiency and throughput.
  • Ensure proper waste identification, routing, storage, segregation, and disposal in accordance with regulatory and facility requirements.
  • Partner with the General Manager on hiring, employee development, performance management, workforce planning, and other personnel-related activities.
  • Analyze operational performance and identify opportunities to improve productivity, profitability, and overall facility performance.
  • Maintain ownership of site-specific permits and ensure ongoing regulatory compliance.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by enforcing Health & Safety procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Hold employees accountable for safety, quality, and operational performance expectations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support business needs.
Qualifications

  • Experience with waste tracking systems, inventory scanning applications, and warehouse operations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced industrial environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and operational reporting systems.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% as needed.
