Job summary

Clean Harbors, Inc. is seeking a Facility Foreman to lead day-to-day operations at our San Jose facility.

You’ll supervise teams, coordinate work, and ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulations while promoting a culture of safety and excellence. Ideal candidates bring hands-on leadership in industrial or hazardous waste operations, a strong ability to mentor staff, and a focus on continuous improvement and safe, efficient facility performance.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required and at least 5 years in industrial, environmental, manufacturing, or hazardous waste operations.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience in an operations environment.
  • OSHA 24-Hour or 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification, or ability to obtain.
  • Knowledge of DOT, RCRA, OSHA, EPA, and other environmental and safety regulations.
  • Ability to operate forklifts, loaders, and heavy equipment, or obtain required certifications.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including overtime and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the daily operations of one or more facility departments while ensuring work is completed safely and in compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Supervise, coach, mentor, and develop employees to promote safety and operational excellence.
  • Coordinate daily work assignments, staffing, and priorities to meet production schedules and commitments.
  • Enforce Health, Safety, Environmental, and Compliance standards (OSHA, DOT, RCRA, EPA).
  • Ensure all paperwork and reporting are completed accurately and on time.
  • Monitor productivity and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Maintain clean, organized, inspection-ready work areas that meet environmental standards.
  • Identify and elevate operational, equipment, safety, or compliance issues to leadership.
  • Participate in incident investigations and support corrective actions.
  • Operate forklifts and heavy equipment as needed to support operations.
  • Train and mentor new employees on procedures, safety, and expectations.
  • Monitor performance and provide coaching and development opportunities.
  • Assist with inventory control, equipment inspections, and audits.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Facility Foreman
Position Summary

The Facility Foreman is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of one or more departments within a Clean Harbors facility while promoting a strong culture of safety, compliance, and operational excellence. This role supervises employees, coordinates daily work activities, ensures compliance with environmental and safety regulations, and supports efficient facility operations. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on leader with experience in industrial or hazardous waste operations who can motivate teams, solve problems, and maintain high standards of performance.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the daily operations of one or more facility departments while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise, coach, mentor, and develop employees to promote a culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence.
  • Coordinate daily work assignments, staffing, and operational priorities to meet production schedules and customer commitments.
  • Enforce all Health, Safety, Environmental, and Compliance standards, including OSHA, DOT, RCRA, EPA, and company policies.
  • Ensure all operational paperwork, electronic documentation, and required reporting are completed accurately and submitted on time.
  • Monitor productivity, workflow, and operational efficiency while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and inspection‑ready work areas that meet housekeeping and environmental standards.
  • Identify, communicate, and elevate operational, equipment, safety, or compliance issues to facility leadership.
  • Participate in incident investigations and support corrective and preventive actions.
  • Operate forklifts, loaders, heavy equipment, and other mobile equipment as needed to support facility operations.
  • Train and mentor new employees on operational procedures, safety requirements, and company expectations.
  • Monitor employee performance and provide coaching and development opportunities.
  • Assist with inventory control, equipment inspections, and routine operational audits.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support business needs.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial, environmental, manufacturing, or hazardous waste operations.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience in an operations environment.
  • OSHA 24-Hour or 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification, or the ability to obtain.
  • Knowledge of DOT, RCRA, OSHA, EPA, and other applicable environmental and safety regulations.
  • Ability to operate forklifts, loaders, and heavy equipment, or obtain required certifications.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Windows‑based applications.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including overtime and weekends, as business needs require.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facility (TSDF).
  • Experience with hazardous waste processing, wastewater treatment, tank farm operations, truck loading and unloading, or drum processing.
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience operating industrial equipment.
  • Experience training, mentoring, and developing employees.
  • Experience leading safety initiatives and driving continuous improvement.
