Job summary

The Colorado Department of Corrections seeks a dynamic leader to supervise facility operations at Buena Vista Correctional Complex. The Associate Warden will oversee housing, security, programs, and plant operations to ensure safe, secure, and humane operations supporting public safety and offender reentry.

Responsibilities include policy implementation, budget oversight, staff supervision, emergency planning, and incident command.

Qualifications

• Ten (10) years of relevant experience in Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Public Administration or a related field to the work assigned.
• A combination of related education and/or relevant experience equal to ten (10) years.

Responsibilities

• Implement departmental policy and directives; assist in development of management plans, strategic plans, and procedures to follow management directives.
• Collaborate with management staff in development and oversight of facility budget, ensure adherence to allocated budget.
• Direct supervision of assigned staff; assess needs, develop staffing patterns, approve leave, provide direction and feedback.
• Oversee development of the facility emergency operations plan; serve as Incident Commander and supervise incident documentation.
• Monitor COPD and offender classification to ensure compliance with policy and capacity concepts.
• Provide oversight of the classification system to ensure proper offender placement and reviews.
• Supervise management staff through performance management and hiring/disciplinary processes.
• Provide leadership to facility personnel and promote staff development.
