Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers seeks an Assistant Warden for Indian Correctional Center #00002, a Security Manager III role overseeing operations across security, treatment, medical, safety and food service in a large facility in Virginia. This role shares 24-hour duties with the Warden and provides day-to-day oversight when the Warden is away.

Qualifications emphasize extensive corrections supervision, security management experience, DCJS certification, and deep knowledge of VADOC policies.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience supervising corrections staff.
• Extensive and progressive security management experience in corrections or law enforcement.
• DCJS Certification.
• Comprehensive knowledge of VADOC policies, procedures, and practices.
• Working knowledge of institutional operations, security, inmate programs and classification.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, develop and counsel staff.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and the public.
• Ability to complete the Virginia Ethics Council COI filing within two business days of hire and annually thereafter.
• Ability to complete COI training within two months of hire and every other year thereafter.

Responsibilities

• Direct activities of multiple areas including Security, Treatment, Medical, Safety and Food Service in an institutional setting.
• Direct daily operations in the absence of the Warden.
• Provide leadership and supervision to departmental heads and staff to ensure policies and safety.
• Assist the Warden in long-term planning and security contingency development.
• Interact with management, staff, visitors, inmates, and the public to maintain orderly operations.
