Job summary

Bachem Americas in Vista, CA is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician to join the team. You will assist with building maintenance and repairs, covering electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry and related systems.

The role requires a trade certification or associate degree with 5+ years experience (or a high school diploma with 7+ years). You will participate in preventive maintenance, document repairs, and support on-call shifts, including some weekends.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or trade school certification with 5+ years relevant experience.
• High School Diploma or equivalent with 7+ years relevant experience.
• Experience with electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, equipment and high mechanical ability.
• Experience with GMP environment (preferred).
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; basic computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Attend to all assigned work and general services orders, including painting, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, construction and flooring.
• Troubleshoot, evaluate and make recommendations during regular inspections.
• Perform routine and non-routine equipment maintenance, modification and repairs in a timely manner.
• Maintain effective preventative maintenance programs as directed by Management.
• Document repairs, adjustments and replacement of equipment per SOPs and cGMP regulations.
• Complete and coordinate with department heads all repairs to offset downtime and production delays.
• Assist maintenance contractors in troubleshooting equipment.
• Order parts and components for repairs as needed.
• Assist with organization and inventory of spare parts.
• Maintain a clean and well-organized maintenance room.
• Provide after hours on-call support, including holidays.
• Must follow safety rules and ensure compliance; adhere to government requirements.
• Maintain, troubleshoot and repair electrical systems.
• Arrive to work on time; stay up to date with required trainings.

Education

Associate’s degree or trade school certification

High School Diploma or equivalent

Electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry and general equipment experience

GMP environment experience (preferred)

The Facilities Maintenance Technician, in conjunction with the Facilities Maintenance Manager is responsible for assisting with the building maintenance and repairs.

The shift is Sunday-Tuesday/Wednesday (rotating) 3pm-1:30am.

What you will do

• Attend to all assigned work and general services orders, including but not limited to: painting, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, construction and flooring
• Troubleshoot, evaluate and make recommendations during regular inspections
• Perform routine and non-routine equipment maintenance, modification and repairs in a timely manner
• Maintain effective preventative maintenance programs, as directed by Management
• Document repairs, adjustments and replacement of equipment per SOP’s and cGMP regulations
• Complete and coordinate with department heads all repairs, as necessary, to offset downtime and production delays
• Assist maintenance contractors if applicable in trouble shooting of equipment
• Order parts and components for repairs as needed
• Assist with the organization and inventory of spare parts
• Maintain a clean and well‑organized maintenance room
• Provide after hours on‑call support, including holidays
• Must follow all safety rules and ensure compliance
• In conjunction with the safety committee, implement the policies and procedures necessary to adhere to all government requirements
• Maintain, troubleshoot and repair electrical systems
• Arrive to work on time
• Remain up to date with all required trainings

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or trade school certification with 5+ years relevant experience Required or
• High School Diploma or equivalent with 7+ years relevant experience required
• Experience with electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, equipment and high mechanical ability
• Experience with VFD controllers, PLC logic controllers, chillers, boilers, electrical circuits, air handlers, air conditioners, refrigeration systems and all general facility equipment (preferred)
• Experience in a GMP environment (preferred)
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Basic computer knowledge, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Ability to effectively organize, multitask, and work in a fast-paced, deadline‑driven work environment
• Ability to communicate in a proactive and solution‑focused manner, including keeping management aware of potential issues
• Detail oriented with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems
• Ability to work independently and manage one’s time
• Ability to communicate effectively and ability to function well in a team environment
• Flexibility of working hours based on business needs may include some nights and occasional weekends
• Must be able to work on a rotating on‑call schedule (for weekends)
• Familiarity with standard laboratory practices
• Familiarity with Environmental Health and Safety regulations
• Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and good driving record required

Base Hourly Range: $23.92- $32.90 (Shift differential may apply)
