GCI Communication Corp. is seeking a Facility Maintenance Technician I in Alaska to perform preventive maintenance and repair of the company’s facility infrastructure, ensuring maximum uptime and high-quality service for customers.

This entry to intermediate level role requires knowledge of HVAC, generators, batteries, light carpentry, and AC/DC power systems, with general instructions on routine work and close supervision on new tasks.

Qualifications

  • A combination of relevant work experience and/or education may substitute to meet total years required.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of four (4) years in a facility operation, maintenance environment, telecommunications technician role, or related background.
  • May require certifications/courses within a defined period after hire (e.g., Defensive Driving).
  • May require a DOT medical card including DOT drug testing.
  • Ability to travel to rural Alaskan communities for up to several days.

Job description

GCI's Facility Maintenance Technician I will perform preventive maintenance and repair of the Company’s facility infrastructure to maximize availability and provide the highest quality of service for our customers.

This is an entry to intermediate level position for the Facility Maintenance technician fully competent at performing basic tasks and job duties. Requires general working knowledge and understanding of HVAC, generators, batteries, light carpentry, and AC & DC power systems including installation, modifications, and test procedures. Receives general instructions on routine work and detailed instructions on new assignments. Work is closely supervised and reviewed for timeliness, accuracy, and following correct procedures.

Required:

*A combination of relevant work experience and/or education sufficient to perform the duties of the job may substitute to meet the total years required on a year-for-year basis

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of four (4) years in a facility operation, maintenance environment, telecommunications technician role, or related background. *
  • Upon hire may be required to successfully complete certifications and courses within a defined period, e.g., Defensive Driving.
  • Upon hire may be required to obtain and maintain a DOT medical card including DOT required drug testing.
  • Ability to travel to rural Alaskan communities for up to several days’ duration.
Preferred:
  • Associate degree in electronics, or related technical degree in mechanical HVAC, electrical, or vocational/military training within the electronics and telecommunications field.
  • Specialization in operating and maintaining HVAC, DC/AC power systems, generators, and structures designed for housing remote telecommunication electronics.
  • Relevant telecom industry or job specific certifications.
