Job description

JOB REQUIREMENTS: The City of Onalaska is seeking to hire a Facility Maintenance Technician and Lead Facility Maintenance Technician for limited‑term positions. Scheduled hours vary per event and may include mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Employees in these positions are responsible for a variety of tasks related to building maintenance and event functions and perform duties under the direction of the Building Supervisor.

Responsibilities
  • Complete the setup and takedown of equipment for events and return the building to its original condition before and after each event.
  • Enforce the Omni Center rules regarding the general public by ensuring safety protocols are followed.
  • Recognize and report building, equipment, or supply problems to the supervisor or lead via written or verbal communication.
  • Assist in ice maintenance, including resurfacing, flooding, patching, and edging.
  • Perform custodial duties: bathroom cleaning and restocking, floor care, window cleaning, and outside maintenance.
  • Execute opening procedures for the building during events and secure the building each night.
  • Ensure customers’ or prospective customers’ needs are reasonably met during events, seeking guidance from immediate supervisor when necessary.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of the building and surrounding grounds.
  • Demonstrate a professional demeanor, establish effective working relationships with the public, associates, volunteers, and staff, and approach problems calmly under stressful circumstances.
  • Contribute to a cooperative work effort by performing other job‑related work as needed or requested.
  • Assist others and complete special projects as scheduled or requested.
Lead Facility Maintenance Technician Responsibilities
  • Lead a crew in completing equipment setup and takedown for events.
  • Provide direction to part‑time staff in the absence of a supervisor.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age 18 years.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to carry out oral or written instructions effectively.
  • Prior experience with facility maintenance, ice arena operations, and/or custodial duties (required for Lead Facility Maintenance Technician).

Compensation

Hourly wage: $14.00 to $19.00, depending on qualifications, budget, and/or position.
