Job summary

FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic at Franklin Correctional Institution to perform general, preventive, and corrective maintenance on plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and related systems. The role includes supervision of supervised inmates and ensuring regulatory compliance.

This Career Service position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid Class E driver's license. The campus is on-site with a focus on safety, efficiency, and facility integrity.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, and at least 1 year of experience in one of the listed trades or 4+ years general maintenance experience.
  • Valid Class E Driver’s License is required.
  • Experience in plumbing, carpentry, welding, drywall, roofing, or food service equipment repair is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general and preventive maintenance, and repair of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, masonry, and related systems.
  • Provide on-the-job training to supervised inmates in trades related to maintenance.
  • Maintain tests, logs, and records for equipment per Department guidelines.
  • Plan, organize, and requisition parts for maintenance tasks while following policies.
  • Prepare reports and manage custody of inmates during tasks and training.
