Job summary

Ford Motor Company in Romulus, MI is seeking a Facility Engineer responsible for safe, reliable operation and improvement of facility infrastructure. You will manage preventive/corrective maintenance, contracts, and compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

The role covers design and maintenance of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic systems, cost estimates, bid packages, and project management for facility upgrades and services.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with facility operations, maintenance, or engineering.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing, fire/life-safety, generators, and building automation systems.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, generators, pumps, and BAS.
  • Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Inspect facility equipment and infrastructure and identify safety, reliability, and maintenance issues.
  • Coordinate corrective maintenance, emergency repairs, and equipment replacements.
  • Manage facility maintenance contractors, service providers, and vendors.
  • Review contractor work and installations to ensure quality and compliance with specs.

In this position...

The Facility Engineer is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation, maintenance, and improvement of facility infrastructure and building systems. This role coordinates preventive and corrective maintenance, monitors facility performance, manages contractors and vendors, and supports compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

Manage the design, development, install, and maintain electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, etc. systems in support of facility management. Including creation of bid packages, develop cost estimates, secure funding, provide scope of work for various third party supplied services, i.e. food service, janitorial, outside grounds management; contract management for service providers (cost reviews, safety audits, service review), layout and design of the facility, quoting, procurement, installation, and facility project management.

What you'll do...
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, generators, pumps, and building automation systems.
  • Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Inspect facility equipment and infrastructure and identify potential safety, reliability, and maintenance issues.
  • Coordinate corrective maintenance, emergency repairs, and equipment replacements.
  • Manage facility maintenance contractors, service providers, and vendors.
  • Review contractor work, maintenance activities, and equipment installations to ensure quality and compliance with specifications.
  • Maintain maintenance records, equipment documentation, operating procedures, and inspection reports.
  • Monitor energy and utility consumption and identify opportunities for cost and energy savings.
  • Support facility renovation, construction, expansion, and capital improvement projects.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, OSHA requirements, environmental regulations, and company safety policies.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness, response, and business-continuity activities.
  • Prepare maintenance schedules, budgets, work orders, and technical reports.
  • Work with operations, maintenance, EHS, security, and other departments to resolve facility-related issues.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions for recurring equipment or facility problems.
  • Recommend improvements to facility systems, equipment reliability, energy efficiency, and operating procedures.

You'll have...
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Facilities Engineering, or a related field; equivalent technical experience may be considered.
  • Experience with facility operations, building systems, maintenance, or engineering.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing, fire/life-safety systems, generators, and building automation systems.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, equipment manuals, and technical documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, project-management, and communication skills.

  • Experience managing contractors and vendors is preferred.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, and applicable building and environmental codes is preferred.

This position is a salary grade 8 and ranges from $96,720-$162,120.
