This is a fully remote position available in select states. The hours are flexible, generally between 7am – 7pm, with an emphasis on productivity. A coding assessment will be given after a successful interview, to be completed within 48 hours. Banner provides equipment and supports your training and ongoing career development.

Position Summary: This role involves high-complexity inpatient coding at Banner hospitals, including diagnosis and procedure coding using ICD CM and PCS, and completing MS-DRG and APR-DRG assignments. Acts as a subject-matter expert in inpatient coding, mentoring less experienced staff, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards.

Core Functions include:

1. Analyzing medical records and accurately coding diagnostic and procedural information.
2. Abstracting clinical diagnoses and procedures, ensuring complete and accurate records.
3. Providing quality assurance and ensuring compliance with coding regulations.
4. Serving as a resource and mentor for internal and external customers.
5. Working independently within a set of defined rules, addressing complex coding matters.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent, specialized training or an associate’s degree in a healthcare field, and current active certification (e.g., CCS, COC, CPC, RHIT, RHIA). At least five years of inpatient coding experience in an acute care setting. Ability to work effectively remotely using standard software and coding systems.

Preferred Qualifications: An associate’s degree or equivalent experience, prior experience in large healthcare organizations.
