Job summary

The Trades Specialist at the Technical College of the Lowcountry performs skilled maintenance, groundskeeping, and custodial duties to keep buildings, grounds, and equipment safe and functional across campus locations. The role provides team leadership for custodial staff, coordinates supplies, and supports event setups and breakdowns with independent judgment in daily operations.

Located on our New River Campus in Bluffton, this position requires handling multiple tasks, ensuring high standards

Qualifications

• Formal training or trades experience directly related to the area of employment.
• Preferred: a high school diploma and two (2) years directly related work experience; or 10th grade education and four (4) years directly related work experience.
• Employee may be required to respond to needs of all campus sites with potential 24/7 calls.
• Duties may involve heavy manual labor, climbing ladders, and exposure to fumes; may involve lifting up to 70 lbs and working in awkward positions.
• Must possess a valid S.C. driver’s license and travel to other sites as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled maintenance of buildings, grounds, and equipment.
• Lead custodial staff and coordinate cleaning and setup activities.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance and repairs on electrical, plumbing, and structural components.
• Assist with event setups and breakdowns across campus locations.
• Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and ensure facilities are stocked.
