Job summary

YMCA of Greater Long Beach is seeking a full-time maintenance/custodial worker to perform cleaning, repairs, and safety inspections across multiple locations in Lakewood, CA. The role involves operating equipment, monitoring sanitation, and coordinating with vendors.

You will handle setup for events, maintain safety standards, and pursue required certifications such as pool operator and CPR/First Aid. This position requires diligence, reliability, and a willingness to learn.

Qualifications

• At least one year of custodial or janitorial experience.
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
• Ability to report and record maintenance requests.
• Basic understanding of upkeep and care of equipment and facilities.
• Criminal clearance, health screening with TB test and drug test.
• Complete online trainings.
• CPR and First Aid preferred.
• Certified Pool Operator Certification preferred.
• Must meet California and Federal requirements and YMCA Transportation qualifications regarding MVR report and maintain satisfactory driving record.
• Class C license and MVR report.

Responsibilities

• Completes daily duties on the schedule and maintains upkeep of assigned area and equipment.
• Operates motorized and non-motorized equipment.
• Records and reports all needed repairs as directed.
• Conducts facilities safety inspections on a regular basis.
• Ensures YMCA building and property is secure during shift and reports incidents and hazards to supervisor.
• May set up and take down furniture for events.
• Keeps janitor's room neat and reports supply orders to staff.
• Responsible for outdoor landscaping and sprinkler systems repair.
• Assists in pool sanitation and filter care.
• Checks YMCA for safety hazards and reports deficiencies.
• Performs air conditioning filter changes.
• Assists in transferring items between locations as needed.
• Coordinates with approved vendors to repair and maintain facilities.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings.
• Assists with safety trainings and maintenance-related trainings.
• Obtains pool maintenance and driver certifications as required.
• Adheres to accounting procedures and tracks expenditures.
• Maintains open lines of communication with staff, supervisor and vendors.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
