Job summary

Illumina in San Diego is seeking a Maintenance Technician 2 to maintain and repair the facility’s structure, equipment and grounds, including HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems.

You will perform mechanical service calls, read blueprints, supervise contractors, and be on call 24/7 to ensure continuous operations in a world-leading genomics environment. The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and precise documentation.

Qualifications

• 2-5 years of related experience.
• Intermediate mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Intermediate plumbing experience to include installation and repair of drainpipes, fittings and fixtures.
• Ability to read and understand equipment schematics.
• Professional behavior reflecting company policies.
• Physically able to lift up to 50 pounds and operate tools.
• Willing to work overtime and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for mechanical service calls and in-house repairs throughout facility and grounds.
• Performs skilled trade work such as carpentry or painting in construction, repair or alteration of structures.
• Monitor, maintain, document and perform preventative maintenance on HVAC system including central plant.
• May provide guidance and oversee other personnel.
• May work from sketches, blueprints, and drawings.
• Act as liaison and supervise work of contractors.
• Be on call and able to respond 7/24/365.
• Changes to responsibilities may occur due to business needs.
