Job summary

The Archdiocese of Chicago is seeking a Facilities Maintenance role to help ensure optimal operation of parish buildings and grounds. Responsibilities include maintaining fire/life safety systems, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and related repairs, as well as grounds upkeep, snow removal, and support for church and school activities.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED (trade training or an associate degree preferred), at least 3 years in building maintenance,

Qualifications

Minimum of High School graduate, GED or equivalent; trade school classes or associate degree preferred.
Minimum 3 years’ maintenance experience in building maintenance or related field.
Basic knowledge in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry and painting.
Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and communicate in writing.
Familiarity with basic PC skills, email and internet.
Valid driver’s license.
Demonstrate understanding and support of Catholic Church teaching, mission and values.

Responsibilities

Maintain and repair building systems including fire/life safety, HVAC, lighting, mechanical and plumbing.
Perform groundskeeping, landscaping, snow removal, and clean-up of sidewalks/parking areas.
Supervise work with outside contractors for routine preventative maintenance.
Install/maintain window AC units and replace detectors’ batteries.
Mop, strip, wax floors, vacuum and shampoo carpets.
Set up for church and school activities.
Ensure safety and security of parish grounds and liaise with church leadership as needed.
