Job summary

The Archdiocese of Chicago is seeking a Maintenance Technician to ensure the reliable operation of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting systems across parish facilities. You will also manage grounds maintenance, snow removal, and minor repairs, contributing to safe, well-maintained buildings for parish life.

Qualified candidates have a high school diploma, 3+ years in maintenance, and basic trades knowledge; valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

Minimum High School graduate or equivalent with trade school classes.
3+ years’ experience in maintenance or related field.
Basic knowledge in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting and related trades.
Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and communicate in writing.
Familiarity with basic PC skills, email and internet.
Valid driver’s license.
Demonstrate understanding and respect for Catholic Church values.

Responsibilities

Ensure security of parish grounds and liaise with leadership and police as needed.
Maintain optimal functioning of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.).
Perform routine maintenance and small repairs in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry and painting.
Develop and follow maintenance schedules; coordinate with facilities manager.
Supervise outside contractors for routine preventive maintenance and inspections.
Install, remove and clean window air units; replace detectors’ batteries; replace light bulbs.
Mop, strip and wax floors; vacuum and shampoo carpeted areas.
Support snow removal to keep parish facilities safe for parishioners and staff.
Assist with general labor tasks and setup for church/school activities.
Perform other required duties as assigned.
