Job summary

The George Washington University is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician to support the Facilities, Buildings & Grounds team at the Foggy Bottom campus in Washington, D.C. This role performs semi-skilled maintenance across carpentry, plumbing, electrical and mechanical trades under senior direction.

Responsibilities include routine maintenance, minor repairs, tool operation, and assisting skilled trades as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus 1.5 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study.
• Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Valid driver’s license and CPR/first aid certification preferred (required in some postings)

Responsibilities

• Operate hand tools, power tools and shop equipment.
• Perform minor repairs on fixtures, plumbing, heating, laundry, and kitchen equipment, motors and electrical appliances.
• Transport materials with automotive equipment.
• Assist in fabrication of equipment and materials in trade shops.
• Repair windows, doors, floors, and painted surfaces.
• Respond to maintenance requests timely and report major repair needs.
• Read blueprints, drawings, schematics to locate trouble areas and complete repairs.
• Maintain building systems and equipment, including electrical, plumbing, steam and HVAC systems.
