Job summary

Akima is seeking Facilities Support Technicians to assist with maintenance and operations at the National Wildlife Health Center (NWHC) in Madison, Wisconsin. The role involves indoor and outdoor tasks across all seasons, ensuring safe and biosecure infrastructure and grounds for laboratories and facilities.

You will support heating and cooling systems, water treatment, lab utilities, and grounds upkeep, reporting to lead technicians while performing required safety measures and equipment upkeep.

Qualifications

• Must be a US citizen able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
• Requires a High School Diploma.
• 1+ year’s experience in general maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Assists with operation of the heating system after receiving initial instructions from lead technician or engineer.
• Maintains hot-water boilers, steam boilers, and water-treatment systems, circulating pumps, building control systems, and burner controls.
• Keeps air conditioning systems, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, fans, motors, control systems, and water-treatment systems in good working order.
• Disassembles, cleans, inspects, repairs, reassembles, and returns heating or air conditioning systems to service.
• Operates laboratory systems after instructions from lead technician or engineer.
• Maintains laboratory air-pressure control systems, waste-water treatment, biosafety cabinets, fume hoods, autoclaves, and utilities such as hot/cold water, deionized water, compressed air, and natural gas.
