Job summary

Alyeska Resort in Girdwood, Alaska is seeking a detail-oriented Facilities Tech 2 to keep our facilities safe, comfortable, and well-maintained. The role focuses on electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and refrigeration tasks within a high-energy resort setting.

Minimum education includes an AA degree or equivalent, or two to four years of relevant skilled trades experience. Wages start at $22.00 per hour with housing options, PTO, and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • AA degree or two years for Tech I, or four years for Tech II in plumbing, electrical, mechanical or refrigeration, or equivalent education/experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Ability to perform basic math and measurements.

Responsibilities

  • Clean, check and adjust electrical equipment such as motors and fans.
  • Connect wiring and replace bulbs.
  • Maintain mechanical items.
  • Prepare requisitions for purchase.
  • Change air conditioner filters and clean fan coil as directed.
  • Perform routine carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical wiring and related maintenance.
  • Clean work areas and dispose of trash and debris.
  • Test and inspect pool equipment and chemistry.

What You’ll Do

As a Facilities Tech 2, you’ll play a key role in ensuring our facilities are safe, comfortable, and well-maintained.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Clean, check and adjust a variety of electrical equipment such as motors and fans.
  • Connect wiring and replace bulbs.
  • Maintain a variety of mechanical items.
  • Prepare requisitions for purchase.
  • Change air conditioners’ filters and clean fan coil as directed.
  • Maintains buildings, performing minor and routine carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical. wiring, and other related maintenance activities.
  • Cleans work areas and disposes of trash and debris.
  • Performs tests and inspections of pool equipment and chemistry.

What We Need

Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or minimum two years for Tech I, or four years for Tech II, of various skilled trading such as plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of organization.

Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Must have or be able to obtain within the introductory period, the following: Valid Alaska Driver's license, second Class Boiler Operators License or ability to acquire within 6 months. For Level II: CPO license.

  • Be on alert and at times, on your feet for long periods, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Work in a fast-paced, high-energy resort environment.
  • Adapt to seasonal changes around the resort and special events.
  • Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; and vibration. Employee must know what Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to use in appropriate environments and must direct others to use same.
