We are currently seeking a Field Engineer to support operations at an international OEM automotive manufacturing plant in Southern Middle Tennessee. This is a full-time, on-site role supporting facility systems, infrastructure integration, and capital improvement projects for an initial 24-month assignment with strong potential for direct hire.

Job Summary

As a Field Engineer, you will serve as an on-site technical representative and project leader supporting the execution of facility and infrastructure projects within an operational automotive manufacturing environment. This role requires strong coordination with OEM production teams, equipment suppliers, contractors, and cross-functional engineers. Your primary focus will be on maintaining operational continuity while executing upgrades, expansions, and process-supporting infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the technical field lead for facility and infrastructure projects supporting manufacturing lines, utilities, and process equipment
  • Coordinate with Production, Maintenance, Facilities Engineering, and Safety teams to define and validate scopes of work
  • Oversee on-site execution of projects including contractor coordination, safety compliance, and schedule adherence
  • Support installation and integration of mechanical, electrical, and civil systems in alignment with manufacturing requirements
  • Perform daily field walks and construction reviews to ensure compliance with specifications, standards, and plant requirements
  • Interface with OEM engineering teams, suppliers, and installation contractors to resolve design and field issues in real-time
  • Participate in commissioning activities, punch list development, and system turnover documentation
  • Provide technical feedback during the design phase on constructability, sequencing, and manufacturability
  • Ensure all plant-based construction activities are aligned with production operations, minimizing downtime
  • Track project progress, change orders, and report on-site activity to senior engineering leadership

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • 5+ years of experience in field engineering or project execution within an industrial or automotive manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing plant systems, including utilities, structural interfaces, and production equipment requirements
  • Hands-on experience with contractor oversight, site safety protocols, and field-level problem solving
  • Ability to read and interpret multi-discipline construction and manufacturing drawings (MEP, structural, architectural)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project tracking tools such as MS Project
  • Capable of working independently in a fast-paced manufacturing setting with limited supervision
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the automotive or Tier 1 manufacturing sector
  • Knowledge of facility and utility systems such as HVAC, compressed air, chilled water, and power distribution
  • Familiarity with IBC, NEC, NFPA, and OSHA construction safety standards
  • OSHA 10 or 30 Hour Certification
  • Experience with AutoCAD and field layout tools
  • Familiarity with delivery methods such as Design-Build, GMP, or EPC
