Job summary

Maret School in Washington, DC is seeking a dependable facilities operations technician to join our facilities team. You will perform general campus maintenance, assist with events, and support daily operations to maintain a safe, clean campus for students and staff.

The role requires hands-on work, ability to use tools, good communication, and flexibility to respond to weather or event-related needs. You will collaborate with Facilities and vendors to ensure smooth school operations.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Perform general campus repairs and upkeep, including painting and minor repairs.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance and routine inspections.
  • Perform basic HVAC system assessments and coordinate complex service needs.
  • Support events with furniture setups and deliveries.
  • Assist with daily operations, moving furniture, packages, and equipment.
  • Provide support for traffic control, campus access, and event logistics.
  • Coordinate contractor access and escort vendors.
  • Provide light custodial support to maintain campus appearance.
  • Assist with snow removal and weather-related operations.
  • Maintain professional, customer-service‑oriented interactions.
  • Collaborate with Facilities staff and outside vendors.

Job description

Maret School is seeking a dependable, hands‑on facilities operations technician to join our facilities team. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, pays attention to detail, and enjoys supporting a busy school community. The ideal candidate is proactive, reliable, team‑oriented, and willing to assist with a wide variety of campus operations needs while helping maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, and visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general campus repairs and upkeep, including painting, patching walls, minor floor repairs, carpet repairs, and other basic maintenance tasks
  • Assist with preventative maintenance and routine inspections of campus buildings, grounds, and equipment
  • Perform basic HVAC system assessments, troubleshoot routine heating and cooling issues, and execute minor repairs or coordinate complex service needs with certified vendors
  • Support school events by assisting with furniture setups, room configurations, event breakdowns, and deliveries
  • Assist with daily operational needs, including moving furniture, packages, supplies, and equipment throughout campus
  • Provide support for traffic control, campus access, and event logistics as needed
  • Assist Facilities staff with contractor access, escorting vendors throughout the building, and coordinating work areas
  • Perform light custodial support when needed to maintain campus appearance and respond to operational needs
  • Assist with snow removal, ice mitigation, and other weather‑related campus operations
  • Maintain a professional and customer‑service‑oriented presence when interacting with students, faculty, and visitors
  • Work collaboratively with Facilities team members and outside vendors to support school operations

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, kneel, and work in physically active environments
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings, weekends, or overtime as needed for events, emergencies, and seasonal operations


Compensation & Benefits
Hourly wage: $32-$40 per hour, based on experience and qualifications. Maret School offers a competitive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision coverage, paid vacation and sick leave, retirement benefits, and daily lunch with a simple breakfast provided during the school year.
