Job summary

Downstreet is seeking a Facilities Manager in Barre, VT to lead maintenance across our affordable housing portfolio and organizational facilities. You will supervise staff and contractors, advance preventive maintenance, and ensure our buildings are safe, responsive, efficient, and compliant.

You will manage budgets, oversee work orders, vendor contracts, and capital projects, coordinating with property management to maximize occupancy.

Qualifications

• Five years of facilities, property maintenance, construction, or building operations experience.
• Strong supervisory experience including overseeing a team and training.
• Working knowledge of building systems, preventive maintenance, work-order systems, and safety practices.
• Experience with budgets, purchasing, projects, vendors, and multi-site coordination.
• Ability to lead teams, set expectations, and respond calmly in emergencies.
• Strong written and verbal communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead facilities staff and contractors; schedule work and foster a safety-focused team.
• Oversee work orders, turnovers, preventive maintenance, grounds, custodial, and seasonal operations.
• Set priorities and service standards; monitor response times, completion, and quality.
• Coordinate inspections, emergency repairs, and after-hours response.
• Modernize maintenance tech use for tenants communication and occupancy optimization.
• Manage vendors, bids, purchasing, invoices, and contractor performance.
• Develop facilities budgets and maintain tools, equipment, and inventories.
• Collaborate with property management on capital planning and development projects.
• Ensure compliance with safety, fair housing, and building regulations; maintain records.
• Represent Downstreet professionally to residents and staff.
