Job summary

The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation seeks a Facility Operations Assistant 2 to supervise crews and manage day-to-day grounds and maintenance tasks. You will coordinate work, support recreation programs, and perform essential repairs and landscape duties in accordance with management priorities.

You may operate heavy machinery and hand tools, document work and materials, and assist in building renovations and preventive maintenance. Overtime and travel may be required.

Qualifications

• One year as Facility Operations Assistant 1 or Motor Vehicle Operator; OR two years of full-time custodial, grounds, or maintenance experience.
• Must possess a valid New York State driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Facility Operations Assistants 1 or other grounds, custodial, or maintenance crew; assign work based on management priorities and ensure schedules and standards are met.
• Assist with Recreation Program, campground opening/closing, and day-to-day operations.
• Assist with hazard tree identification, removal, and cleanup using chainsaw, pole saw, chipper, and splitter.
• Operate heavy machinery including tractors, skid steer, loader, mini excavator.
• Maintain written records of work performed and materials used; report progress to supervisor.
