Job summary

Peninsula Temple Beth El is seeking a Director of Facilities and Operations in San Mateo, CA. The role oversees daily facilities management, safety, and operational excellence for a 700-family congregation, reporting to the Executive Director.

You will lead a small team, manage budgets, and coordinate events while maintaining a welcoming environment for worship, learning, and community activities. The position highlights preventive maintenance, vendor management, and collaboration with clergy

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience.
• 5–10 years facilities and operations management experience.
• Experience managing staff, budgets, vendors, and facility projects.
• Knowledge of building systems, maintenance practices, and safety regulations.
• Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays for synagogue programs and events.

Responsibilities

• Oversee maintenance, repair, and improvement of buildings, grounds, and infrastructure.
• Develop preventive maintenance programs to keep facilities in excellent condition.
• Coordinate capital improvements, renovations, and construction activities.
• Monitor HVAC, electrical, plumbing, security, safety, and tech systems.
