Job summary

The Ohio State University is seeking a Facilities Mechanical Steamfitter Technician Senior for University Hospital and Facilities Administration. The role ensures uninterrupted operation of mechanical systems, including boilers, steam and condensate, piping, and related equipment.

Under supervision, you will inspect, install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair welded piping systems; respond to emergencies; adhere to safety and documentation standards; and support other trades as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Three years’ experience in maintenance, pipefitting and/or welding trade and related equipment.
• Basic understanding of plumbing code compliance and piping components.
• Valid driver’s license and OSHA 10-hour General Industry Safety and Health card.
• Probationary period completion required.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, test, install, fabricate, modify, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair welded piping systems and equipment including boilers and steam systems.
• Respond to emergency situations and correct defects in mechanical systems.
• Assist other trades, follow safety practices, and document work and communications.
• Operate department vehicles and provide high level of customer service.

Job Title:Facilities Mechanical Steamfitter Technician SeniorDepartment:University Hospital | Facilities Administration

Under the supervision of a supervisor, performs tasks that ensure the uninterrupted operations of mechanical systems and equipment. Inspects, tests, installs, fabricates, modifies, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs all welded piping systems and equipment. Piping systems and equipment include, but are not limited to boilers, compressed gas systems, steam & condensate systems, air compressors, laboratory and industrial kitchen equipment, steam stations, heat exchangers, condenser water, condensate, chilled water and heating hot water. Responds to emergency situations and evaluates and corrects defects.

Assists other trades as needed; adheres to all safety practices and procedures; cleans and maintains work areas and equipment; attends meetings; properly completes documentation; provides a high level of customer service; communicates to customers, coworkers and supervision via written, electronic and verbal methods and devices; operates department vehicles; performs other duties as assigned. Shift, hours, days, and/or location are subject to change based on operational need in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement; may work overtime; subject to 24-hour emergency call.

Minimum Classification Requirements:

High school diploma/GED or equivalent combination of education and experience; three years’ experience in maintenance, pipefitting and/or welding trade and related equipment or equivalent combination of education and experience; Efficient skills and knowledge in using pipefitting and welding tools and equipment. A basic understanding of plumbing code compliance. Knowledge of piping components (i.e. types of valves, fittings, types of piping). A valid driver’s license. Successful completion of probationary period. Valid OSHA 10-hour

General Industry Safety and Health card.

Desired Qualifications:

Associates/technical degree or Vocational certificate in skilled trades/maintenance related field; boiler operator’s license (e.g., low pressure, high pressure); valid OSHA 10-hour General Industry Safety and Health card. Valid AWS Certified Welder certificate desired; boiler operator’s license (e.g., low pressure, high pressure); basic understanding of university building design standards (BDS) related to the maintenance and repair of building systems and equipment; basic understanding of the project process as managed by FOD Design and Construction

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to push and pull 70 lbs. and distinguish colors. Climb and stand on ladders for extended periods of time.

Unusual Work Conditions:

May work in hot, cold, dusty, or dirty environments for an extended period of time. May work in cramped spaces.
