Job summary

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center seeks a Building Automation Systems Supervisor to lead and manage the BAS team responsible for maintaining and evolving building control systems. You will direct budgeting, development, and day-to-day operations to ensure safe, efficient hospital utility services.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years of leadership, plus 4–8 years of HVAC/BAS experience, BACnet expertise, and strong teamwork skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
• Minimum three years of experience required, preferably with prior leadership experience.
• Four to eight years of experience troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and testing HVAC control systems and related equipment.
• In-depth knowledge of BACnet systems including complex building HVAC applications, alarming, scheduling, and integration.

Responsibilities

• Supervise all assigned personnel including interviewing, hiring, and performance reviews.
• Oversee maintenance, development, daily operation, and budgeting of health system building control systems.
• Provide direction on BAS strategies, procedures, policies and methodologies to ensure safety.
• Contribute to strategic planning and act as a top technical contributor for BAS projects.
• Read and interpret electrical/mechanical blueprints and drawings.

SCOPE OF POSITION

This Facilities Services Department position supports Wexner Medical Center and university goals.

Systems and equipment are operated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This position is subject to callback.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Building Automation Systems Supervisor is responsible for the interviewing, hiring performance review and direct supervision of all assigned personnel; in addition, for the maintenance, development, daily operation, and budgeting of the health system building control systems. Provides direction on major initiatives and projects; ensures the integration of building automation systems with the overall mission of the Wexner Medical Center. Provides direction on building automation system strategies, procedures, policies and methodologies to ensure patient, visitor and staff safety.

Contributes strategic vision and serves as the top-level technical contributor in the planning, development, implementation, functionality and evaluation of building automation systems that support, enhance and ensure effective, safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operations of mechanical systems and equipment, building controls and utilities for the Medical Center.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

For Hire:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience
• Minimum three years of experience required, preferably with prior leadership experience.

Desired:

• Four to eight years of experience troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and testing of HVAC control systems and related equipment, required
• In-depth knowledge of BACnet systems to include complex building HVAC system applications and engineering, LANs commands/configurations, alarming, scheduling, proprietary interfaces, integration and system management, PC operation and workstation software; network training and/or experience working with network configurations and troubleshooting; broad knowledge of a variety of direct digital control systems;; knowledge of Switch Programming and IP infrastructure/networks.

• Ability to read and understand electrical/mechanical blueprints and drawings, required
• Extensive experience/knowledge of HVAC systems, control systems, and electrical systems in industrial/commercial environments, including a working knowledge of:
  • Air Handling Systems
  • BACnet integration between multiple manufacturers
  • Chilled Water systems
  • Control Systems
  • Heating systems
  • Pneumatic Control Systems
  • Smoke control systems
  • Steam
• Building Automation management, programming and networking experience, required
