Under general supervision, this position is responsible for performing a variety of skilled maintenance work both inside and outside of City buildings. This position performs multiple functions that are essential to the operations of the City including emergency repair, general maintenance, and preventive maintenance.

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for performing a variety of skilled maintenance work both inside and outside of City buildings. This position performs multiple functions that are essential to the operations of the City including emergency repair, general maintenance, and preventive maintenance.

This position will work primarily in the City's new Civic Center. To learn more about this project, click here . This includes gathering first-hand knowledge from contractors, designers, architects, and systems specialists on operations of facility systems including HVAC, electric, and plumbing.

This is a Civil Service position with the City and testing will occur at at City Hall on July 15 at 4:00 PM, July 16 at 5:00 PM, and July 17 at 10:30 AM. When the posting closes, qualified applicants will be invited to test and sign up for their preferred testing time.
Essential Job Functions
  • Responsible for facility maintenance by performing general and preventive tasks as assigned.
  • Handles equipment safely and appropriately; uses appropriate safety equipment when performing essential job functions.
  • Proficient when using the City of Gahanna-provided technology and software, including computers, tablets, building automation systems and the asset management system.
  • Performs rough carpentry work, assists in installing paneling, cabinets, flooring, framing, and shelves in city buildings and facilities.
  • Repairs or replaces lighting, doors, windows, walls, ceilings, floors and performs locksmith duties; inspects roofs and may make roof repairs.
  • Performs basic plumbing work; repairs faucets, commodes, water heaters and valves; maintains and repairs sprinkling systems and equipment and fixtures; performs basic interior electrical work.
  • Performs basic heating, ventilation and air conditioning work; assists in repairing and installing heating and air conditioning units; replaces filters.
  • Prepares and paints walls, floors, ceilings; builds shelves, bulletin boards, display cases and the like; repairs desks, tables, chairs and other furniture.
  • Operates a variety of standard power tools and equipment in grounds and building maintenance and repair activities on a regular basis.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on buildings, appliances, plumbing and electrical fixtures.
  • Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms; cleans and dusts furniture and bookcases; uses floor buffer to polish floors; makes minor repairs to walls, windows, doors, floors; straightens up work areas; moves furniture, materials and supplies; cleans equipment; cleans and unplugs drains; assists in making repairs.
  • Maintains records of work performed and materials used, including producing routine reports and records.
  • This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Participates in activities to remove snow and ice from building entrances, steps, landings, sidewalks, and ramps, including shoveling snow and application of ice melting materials.
  • Performs related tasks as required.

**Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required
