Job summary

Nebraska State Penitentiary in Lincoln, NE is seeking a Maintenance Specialist I to perform daily and routine maintenance across the facility. Earn a competitive wage with a $3/hour differential for certain hours worked, and enjoy strong benefits including holidays, leave, and retirement options.

Responsibilities include maintaining the physical plant, carpentry work, preventive maintenance, supervising inmates, and managing inventory and tools.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or equivalent vocational education in construction, industrial engineering, HVAC, welding, or other building trade.
• Experience in building maintenance or a mechanical trade may substitute education on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the physical plant with repairs and preventive maintenance.
• Perform skilled carpentry for renovations and construction of buildings, structures, and fixtures.
• Schedule and perform preventative maintenance and repairs for equipment and machinery.
• Supervise inmates working in the maintenance department.
• Maintain inventory of stock and maintenance parts.
• Maintain tool logs and follow policies for tool control and purchasing.
