Job summary

University of Michigan - Flint is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic I to perform routine building maintenance and minor repairs to keep campus systems safe, functional, and reliable.

This first shift role (6:00am-2:30pm, Sun-Thu) involves inspecting equipment, replacing worn parts, performing minor repairs, maintaining records, and supporting 24/7 facilities operations. Strong communication, customer service and ability to work with minimal supervision are essential.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be able to operate a UM vehicle.
• Experience in facility maintenance.
• Experience with the use of office equipment and technology
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Customer service-oriented.
• Ability to use common tools.
• Ability to understand and follow directions as given.

Responsibilities

• Inspect equipment to determine maintenance needs by visual and tactile checks.
• Lubricate, adjust, and perform repairs on cleaning and related equipment.
• Replace worn components (doors, hinges, lights, belts, cords).
• Install or repair fixtures and fixtures hardware; maintain fixtures and ceilings.
• Perform minor repairs and furniture maintenance as needed.
• Prepare inspection reports and work orders.
• Shut down machinery for maintenance or emergencies.
• Maintain cleanliness and order in assigned areas.
